Injuries: Smith-Schuster expected to play vs. Pats

The College Park Boys and Girls Club U 10 AA girls soccer team earned its second win of the spring with a 2 1 triumph against Beltsville.

After a scoreless first half, Beltsville took a 1 0 lead when a shot ricocheted in the goal box and bounced into the goal. Erica Belshay scored for the Hornets to tie the game at 1 1, and late in the contest Emma Davis gave College Park the game winning goal. Cindy Reyes helped spark the offense, which also had contributions from Cathy Iraheta and Maureen Cavanaugh and midfielders Christel Mayes, Hope Micallef and Alycia Newman.

Micallef and Joy Huber split time in goal, with Huber making several key saves late to help College Park preserve the win. Erika Contrerras and Caitlin Brown contributed defensively for the Hornets, who return to action this weekend against Marlboro.

The Lewisdale University Park Fireballs have dropped their first two games in the county U 14 league after going unbeaten and winning the U 12 title last fall.

LUP lost a 2 1 decision to College Park on Sunday. Camille Richman scored unassisted in the second half for the Fireballs. Goalkeeper Emily Rhodes didn allow a goal in the second half after College Park had scored both of its goals in the first half. Diana Seiler, Nicole scott and Celina Aragon had solid performances on defense. Abigail Cahen, Emma Gentle and Erica DeJohn also contributed for LUP.

The Fireballs opened the season March 18 with a 2 1 loss to Hyattsville Mount Rainier Brentwood. Richman gave LUP a 1 0 lead when her corner kick curved into the goal. But HMB equalized before halftime and got the game winner with 10 minutes to play. today at Hollywood Elementary School. Players should bring their gloves. The Langley Park Boys and Girls Club is accepting registration for football and cheerleading. The club will have football teams from 65 to 125 pounds and is also seeking football coaches.
